North American Beaver (Castor canadensis) walking on top of winter food cache. British Columbia, Canada. Fall. In late summer/fall beavers cut down many bushes and trees and haul them back to their lodge area to store for winter food. Most of this food cache is underwater (though as one sees here quite abit sticks above too) where the beavers can access the limbs and branches once the pond freezes over.
