Gregarious non-breeding Atlantic Puffins (Fratercula arctica) 'hang out' during nesting season on grassy slopes and rock ledges near the many scattered burrows of the colony's breeding pairs, here along the coast of eastern Newfoundland, summer, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Puffins communicate much more with gestures than vocalizations. So one could speculate that these two - one gaping silently and the other flapping and displaying its profile - may be testing status, displaying aggression... or just fooling around.
